2024 Women’s World Champ Maira Viana: Riding the Waves to Victory

1) Throughout the IBC World Tour, you delivered stellar performances. Which event or wave pushed you to your limits the most this season, and how did you rise to the challenge?
The event in Portugal, Sintra Pro festival, as it is a sea that varies a lot. I used my experience of getting to know the place and analyzed the sea for a few days to connect with the sea.

2) As the newly crowned women’s world champion, how did your training and preparation evolve over the season?
I worked a lot on the physical and mental side of my game. There were many close events in the final stretch of the IBC World Tour so it definitely helped me a lot.

3) Did you focus on any specific areas that helped you peak at the right moment?
I focused on putting all my physical preparation into practice outside of the water when I was training for bodyboarding events.

4) Was there a particular event or wave during the 2024 tour that you felt defined your season or gave you the confidence that you could win the world title?
When I won the fourth event stage in Antofagasta, Chile. I felt a lot more confident about going for the world title!

5) Now that you’ve won the world championship, what are your goals for the future?
I will continue competing on the world circuit and emphasize the importance of physical preparation in the life of a body boarding athlete.

6) Do you plan to focus on defending your title, or are there other milestones you want to achieve in bodyboarding?
Yes, I’m going to try for a second World Title and improve my surfing with clean, progressive maneuvers
