Cape Town, South Africa – The Cape Town Bodyboarding Association (CTBA) is proud to announce that it will host the South African Bodyboarding Championships (SA Champs) 2026, marking the event’s highly anticipated return to Cape Town for the first time since 2018.

Set to take place from 28 September to 2 October 2026, the prestigious national competition will bring together the country’s top bodyboarding talent across the junior, women’s, open, and masters divisions.

In an exciting shift, CTBA is targeting the West Coast stretch between Melkbosstrand and Bloubergstrand as the event’s primary competition zone—an area fast gaining a reputation for consistent swell, punchy beach breaks, and spectacular Table Mountain backdrops.

“We’re incredibly excited to bring SA Champs back to Cape Town,” said a CTBA representative. “This stretch of coastline offers dynamic and reliable conditions, giving us the flexibility to run a world-class event while showcasing some of the most scenic surf spots in the country.”

Known for its consistent Atlantic swells and versatile sandbanks, the Melkbosstrand–Blouberg coastline delivers a variety of high-performance waves ideal for competitive bodyboarding. The region’s accessibility, vibrant beachfront atmosphere, and iconic views make it a standout choice for both athletes and spectators.

Beyond the action in the water, SA Champs 2026 aims to elevate the profile of bodyboarding in South Africa, spotlight emerging talent, and position Cape Town’s West Coast as a premier destination for ocean sports and surf tourism.

Sponsorship & Local Business Opportunities

With a growing audience and strong national interest, SA Champs 2026 presents exceptional sponsorship opportunities for brands looking to align with a dynamic, youth-driven, and ocean-focused lifestyle. From on-site branding and digital exposure to direct engagement with athletes and spectators, partners will have the chance to connect with a passionate and rapidly expanding market.

Importantly, the event also creates valuable opportunities for local businesses along the West Coast—from accommodation providers and restaurants to surf shops and service-based businesses—to get involved, benefit from increased foot traffic, and be part of a high-profile national event.

“We’re excited to work with local businesses and partners to create a vibrant event atmosphere both on and off the beach,” added the CTBA. “This is not just a competition—it’s an opportunity to support the local economy and showcase the West Coast lifestyle.”

With elite riders, powerful waves, and one of the most photogenic coastlines in the world, the CTBA is set to deliver an unmissable five days of competition, community, and coastal energy. The association looks forward to welcoming athletes, supporters, partners, local businesses, and fans to what promises to be a landmark event on the South African sporting calendar.
